IFEED Projects:
Concentrated Solar Power in Cooperation with the German Aerospace Center (DLR)

IFEED had contributed to three studies conducted by the German Aerospace Center (DLR):

TRANS-CSP

The TRANS-CSP study focuses on the interconnection of the electricity grid of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa (EUMENA) with the purpose of supplying about 15 % of the European electricity demand by solar energy imports from the South by the year 2050.

MED-CSP

The MED-CSP study focuses on the electricity and water supply of the regions and countries including Southern Europe. Environmental, economic and social sustainability in the energy sector can only be achieved with renewable energies. Renewable energy resources are plentiful and can cope with the growing demand of the EU-MENA region. Renewable energies are the key for socio-economic development and for sustainable wealth in MENA. An adequate set of policy instruments must be established immediately to accelerate renewable energy deployment in the EU and MENA.

AQUA-CSP

The AQUA-CSP study analyses the potential of concentrating solar thermal power technology for seawater desalination in the Middle East and North Africa. The result is a comprehensive data base on technology options, water demand and deficits of the MENA countries, water resources, solar energy resources and the potential markets for solar desalination. A long term scenario until the year 2050 quantifies the socio-economic and environmental impacts of this concept in the MENA region.
